As imagens da onda causaram tanta repercussão em veículos de comunicação internacionais que muitos jornalistas crêem que esta pode ter sido a maior onda já surfada e registada de todos os tempos.Se isso for realmente confirmado, Garrett McNamara terá seu feito homologado no Guinness World Records, o Livro dos Recordes, substituindo a onda de 77 pés que o compatriota Mike Parsons surfou em Cortez Bank, na Califórnia.
On November 1, Garret McNamara in Portugal took the biggest wave surfed in the world, with about 90 foot (Height of a building of 10 floors), more specifically in North Beach, Nazareth is one of the main contenders for the Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards in 2011/2012 Biggest Wave Award category.
The images of the wave caused such repercussions in international media that many journalists believe that this may have been the biggest wave ever surfed and recorded all time .if this is actually confirmed, Garrett McNamara has approved its done in the Guinness World Records the Book of Records, replacing the 77-foot wave of compatriot Mike Parsons surfed at Cortes Bank, California.
O Canhão da Nazaré,
fica situado na costa da Nazaré, Portugal. É o maior desfiladeiro submarino da Europa, tem uma extensão de cerca de 200 km e chega a atingir os 5 000 m de profundidade.
O Canhão de Nazaré também funciona como um polarizador de ondulações. No dia 01/11/2011 o atleta Garrett McNamara surfou na região conhecida como Norte do Canhão uma onda que tinha por volta de 30 metros de altura sendo a maior onda já surfada na história.
