A "cantora" holográfica foi criada pela Crypton Future Media, que usou o sintetizador de voz Vocaloid para criar a voz da menina de 16 anos. Hatsune faz tanto sucesso no Japão que ela já tem um DVD gravado e também está em turné, que esta sempre esgotada como pode ver na imagem abaixo.
